Some Key Achievements and Interests
Founded the Kyrle Society in 1875 to ‘give pleasure to the poor’, and opened up access to arts and books to the working class.
Member of Board of Guardians in Marylebone.
Worked on housing reform projects with sister Octavia Hill.
Connection to Bloomsbury
The Kyrle Society turned disused burial grounds into public gardens – St George’s Gardens being one redesigned for this purpose.
Female networks
Octavia hill, her sister and a famous social reformer. Supported also by arts and crafts architect Lady Mary Lovelace.
