Education

1888-1889 Studied archaeology at University College London (UCL).

1888-1891 Studied Literae Humaniores at Somerville College, Oxford earning Class II and becoming a Mary Conybeare Scholar.

1904 Master’s degree at Trinity College Dublin.

1921 Master’s degree at University of Oxford. (Oxford only opened degrees to women in 1920. Lathbury had campaigned for the university to allow women to take degrees.)

Some Key Achievements and Interests

Was registered as an AEW (Association for the Education of Women) student while at Somerville College.

Appointed an Extension Lecturer for Oxford University.

1890 Interviewed alongside Jane Harrison about keeping Greek studies in universities. Interview published in the Pall Mall Gazette.

1891 Freelance lecturer in Greek Archaeology at the British Museum, focusing on Greek dress and life.

At different dates: Member of the Association for the Education of Women (1890), the Society for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies (1891), Council member (1892), the British Association for the Advancement of Science (1897), the Aristotelian Society (1891), the International Congress of Orientalists (1892). (In 20c the Royal Numismatic (Council member and frequent event speaker), the Classical Association, the Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies.)

19 January 1892 Lectured Greek Art and Life for the Chelsea Centre for University Extension at the British Museum.

1892 Travelled in Greece.

1893 Attended the first annual meeting of the Council of the Association of Women Pioneer Lecturers.
