DISCOVERING AND DOCUMENTING ENGLAND’S LOST JEWS

Since 2018 Pascal Theatre Company has been exploring the history of Sephardi Jews who first came to England in the seventeenth century. Their legacy is an important element of English and British history that is not widely known.

We have worked with many communities, sharing our discoveries and exploring parallel narratives of immigration to this country.
We have made rich associations and partnerships with descendants of the original families as well as immigrants from overlapping histories and cultures.

As part of our research we recorded oral history interviews which can be accessed here.

An e-book can be downloaded here.

A large-scale, site-specific performance element for the community was originally planned for the summer of 2020. However the COVID-19 pandemic meant we had to adapt and re-imagine our material to create an online series of artistic presentations and experiences on the website, forming a ‘virtual travel guide’ that we have called One Lost Stone.
